Job description

This is what he has to say:

I’m a young man, looking for a new Support Worker to join my team at my home in Staplehurst. I’m in my twenties and I have Down Syndrome; I have a wicked sense of humour so expect lots of jokes, I’m also very friendly and the people in my support team are very important to me.

I’m passionate about seeing live performances, at the theatre, the circus or seeing bands! Looking after my home is also very important to me, I need some support doing this, helping me to clean and organize. I enjoy going out on evenings and weekends, particularly to visit my friends, complete my chores, take my bike out for a ride, or even just going out for a fancy latte! At home I enjoy watching old comedy shows, doing art and looking after my cat.

During the weekdays I attend a range of day opportunity services, including employment projects at the shop I work in and the theatre company I am a part of.

I’m looking for a support worker who is fun to be with, kind and patient. I need help to prepare my meals, and enjoy tasty, healthy, and homemade food, particularly fish so someone with good cooking skills would be a bonus! I’m quite independent with my personal care, however I need someone who can support me with respect and dignity.

You will work closely with the other members of my team to ensure well rounded support and allow you to learn about the skills needed to support me with my communication skills and support needs. You will be given the training needed to support me, including first aid, medication awareness and communication training.
